Championship High School Basketball: 10 Plays for Special Situations

Championship High School Basketball: 10 Plays for Special Situations

with Stu Vetter, Montrose Christian (MD) HS Head Coach; 2x National Coach of the Year (USA Today), 89% winning percentage in 29+ years of coaching Legendary high school coach Stu Vetter shares his special situations package that has helped him coach 699 victories. Vetter starts off with a versatile full-court offense for breaking pressure. Once the pass is inbound, the options are down, back, middle and throw over. A feature of this set is the over the top play against full front defense. To break a 2-2-1 zone press, Vetter demonstrates the 2-1-2 “Walk Up” or the 1-3-1 “Walk Up” plays. The “Up” play is good at the end of the clock. This play is loaded with scoring options for several different players. A good play for a hot scorer is “Loop,” which includes three screens for an open shot. “Line 24″ involves screening and down screening for a jump shot. “Blitz” is a predetermined play that can yield a basket on only 3 seconds. “Blitz 50″ is the same play but creates a shot at half court in only 2 seconds. With less than 2 seconds, an out-of-bounds play, “Horse“, can lead to a lob or a direct pass from the corner. When in need of a 3-pointer, “Laker” can set up your best shooter at the end of the game. These time-tested plays will give you more options when you need them most! 37 minutes. 2006. DVD.

If you’re a horse rider, have you ever played horse riding PC/console games…..?

Wednesday Aug 26, 2009

…..and if you have, are they accurate? Something like Lucinda Green’s Equestrian Challenge, for example.
Nooooo, I don’t ride. Horses scare me! Pathetic aren’t I?

No,They are not accurate! I guess when you clean the stable or dressing the horse, they sort of get that part right! But it’s not accurate simplely because it’s not that easy to ride a horse! I guess you could say the information is quiet accurate but the feeling is definitely not!But diffrent horse riding PC games have diffrent types of accurates levels too.

What would you teach kids (or want your kids to learn?) at a horse day camp for 3rd – 5th grade?

Wednesday Aug 26, 2009

Just for fun:

If you were holding a horse day camp for 3rd-5th graders (geared toward those with no/little horse experience), how would you run it? How many days, how many hours a day (at camp & riding), what would you charge, and what horse/pony:rider ratio would you have?
What type of lessons would you teach to this age of kids?

If it were me, I would do:
5 hours a day for 5 day sessions, $300 per session
Maximum 5 kids per session
Around 7 or 8 safe ponies/horses
Ride for about 1 1/2 to 2 hours
Lessons on: horse safety, horse terms (colors, parts, markings, etc.), grooming, saddling/bridling, basic riding (mounting/dismounting, stop/go, turning, walk/trot, mounted games), horse health & care (mucking, feeding, common illnesses)
Plus a mini-show for the kids & parents at the end

What would your horse camp look like? :)

I have done many horse camps, and they have all been planned just like yours! Mine usually started around 9am and ended at 4pm. The most kids I ever had was about 17. That was a handful, 10 kids should be the limit. Yes, all the horses should be beginner safe, and friendly. (no biting, kicking or bad attitudes) They got two lessons a day, and the first day they were on lunge lines. I also split them into groups, so they get a bit more attention. I usually had 10 kids and five horses so they shared. The mini shows are very fun too! Btw, I usually get at these 1 person to help me at the camp.

I learned how to ride at camp, and have been very succesful since then! Good luck!
